A Bit of Luxury Behind Bars

The Historic Harbor Town District of Vermilion, Ohio is home to a luxurious bed and breakfast in the Old Vermilion Jailhouse. This unique stay offers a bit of history wrapped in contemporary comfort.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a bedroom fit for royalty. Skillfully painted murals and stain glass windows add glamor to the former prison walls.

If guests would prefer a more authentic place to sleep, they can opt for one of two cells.

The Old Vermilion Jailhouse Bed and Breakfast is truly an upscale experience that offers a glimpse into the past. My favorite feature was the shower which includes two large rain showerheads, four mounted wall showerheads, and a hand-held showerhead. This may be a former jailhouse, but it is anything but rustic.

A unique stay in the Harbor Town of Vermilion, Ohio would not be complete without a visit to Granny Joe’s Ice Creamatorium.

Built in 1850, the building originally housed a funeral parlour, but today it houses “Great ice cream and treats to die for!” as noted on their business sign.

“Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. It is up to you to give [life] a meaning.”  Jean-Paul Sartre
